Soffit

“Soffit” refers to the material that connects the siding to the fascia board.

  • Soffit is not on all homes so don’t panic if you don’t see it!

  • If you have an overhanging roof with no soffit, animals and elements may be free to enter your attic or interior.

  • In the old days soffit was made from wood, which needed regular painting to be preserved. Modern soffit is made from aluminum or vinyl, requiring zero maintenance.

  • Oftentimes, vented soffit panels are made with small holes or perforations to allow fresh air into your attic space. This fresh air then circulates and escapes through your roof’s venting system. It is believed that this attic ventilation increases the lifespan of your roof. There are other known benefits to this ventilation as well. If your attic space maintains a temperature equal to the exterior temperature, your home should have significantly less ice forming along the edges during winter months.
